Re: Ignition / Starting Issue

I won't add anything to the troubleshooting as I know very little about /5 bikes. I will say, EME sells a very good color wiring schematic for reasonable cost. For any BMW bike I have found the more schematics you can get ahold of from various sources such as EME, Clymer or Hayes, are a great help. ...

Re: 1973 R75/5 - electrical issues?

A 25 amp fuse? I am going out on a limb but isn't that high? LOL, I am used to 8 amp in the other bikes so, forgive any misunderstanding regarding the /5 set up. St.

Re: electronic ignition and carb conversion

The things I liked about the Wedgetail system It was super easy to install. Required no splicing or messing with factory wiring. (For your bike, I am not sure if this holds true, best to ask the supplier Tom Cutter or Motorrad Electrik.) Easy to set timing. Looks very robust. The only negative was m...

Re: electronic ignition and carb conversion

Hello Richard, LOL, I tell everyone and may be a pain, get rid of the points! Keeping a bike tuned up is so much easier when you don't have the point wear and then have to do the replacement, gaping and timing dance. For years on my RS I used a Dyna electronic system. I will say it was far better th...

Re: another background question about r60/5

The valve covers on my 83 and 84 R80RTs were originally silver. I never painted the ones on the 83, didn't have it long enough to do so. I did pain them on the 84, The R100 bikes of those years had the covers already done in Black. Not sure if it was powerboat, anodized or just painted. LOL, I like ...

Re: Driveline Vibration:

Are you the original owner? Do you have any idea as to how the bike was ridden or maintained before it was stored? Did you do the restoration or did you have it done by someone else? When you/they pulled the fluids out was there any sign of water in the transmission gear oil? If there was it would h...

Re: Main seal?

LOL, as someone who grew up with shop manuals, I really appreciate some of the fellows who have taken the time to either take lots of pictures to show work or as in the case of Brook Reams and Boxer Two Valve, to make high quality videos. Seems the newest versions of Clymer and hanses manuals are ju...

Re: Engine protection bars

Boxer Two Valve also carries them. I think mine came from EME however, just don't remember for sure. Just a heads up, if you have been using the straight oil filters, (maybe not as you have a faired bike) you will most likely have to switch to the hinged filters after installing the bars. One of the...

Re: 1973 R75/5 - electrical issues?

Isn't the nail style "key" ignition switch on the /5 bikes prone to problems like this? Are there fuses or is this an early year bike without? St.
