R75/5 Engine Swap

We are working on a very sad 71 R75/5 that we want to remake as a shop bike and we are considering an engine swap. The engine in the bike needs a lot of work and a replacing it with something newer sounds interesting. Can anyone tell me if something like an R90 will fit into the R75 frame and mate u...

Thanks, the modifications

Thanks, the modifications were done by a BMW specialist and this was his personal bike. I will check to see if the cam was updated when the other work was done. I am not interested in a hot rod, but others here have commented that the R60/5 needs a bit of help. My first choice would be an R75/5, but...

/5 Question

I am looking at a well used R60/5 that has a few mods and I would like to hear from this group on a few things. First, were these bikes ever sold in yellow with black pinstripe? This bike is yellow and I am guessing that it is non-standard but actually looks very nice. Second, the engine has been re...

Thanks everyone, I decided to

Thanks everyone, I decided to try these gaskets from Vech because my oil pan was over tightened by the previous owner. I spent a very long time hammering it flat with a a small body hammer and a dolly that I made to fit. I plan to seal the bolts and clean everything very well.

Yeah, I agree about the car

Yeah, I agree about the car show guys who never drive their cars so the tires are just for show. I drive my old cars so I will not go near a Coker tire ever again.

I have never owned a Coker

I have never owned a Coker motorcycle tire but I have had their classic car tires and they are very poor. The consensus among the classic car forums that I follow is that anything made be Coker is pure junk and downright scary to drive on. There is even a popular saying among those of us with vintag...

OK, I tried all of the starting variations and the problem persists. I have been thinking of installing a Power Dynamo system, so this might be a good time to do that.

Thanks everyone, these are

Thanks everyone, these are great suggestions and they give me a direction to head next. I should have included that I went through the ignition set up as part of the work that has been done so far. I also appreciate the starting suggestions. On my 69 R60, I always turn off the gas and let the carbs ...

Welcome to the forum, I went

Welcome to the forum, I went through a similar search a few months ago and I was lucky enough to find a Granada Red 69 R60/2 that I love. If you get to the Monterey area, we have the largest motorcycle museum on the west coast, over 175 bikes, in Carmel Valley. We also happen to have a 63 R60/2 for ...

Thanks for the input, that is

Thanks for the input, that is just what I wanted to know. The R60 that I am considering looks to be in nice condition and the guy is asking $2000 or best offer and that is what caught my interest. Local R75/5's seem to be in the High $5,000 range. I guess that I need to ride the bike to see how it p...
