Re: A small hole in the carburetor

Michael,

Let's start with the easy things first. Read my post on the other thread and start debugging there. :D

Re: R51/3-carbs leakage and tuning issues

Michael, Lets do a bit of debugging. What I wold suggest first to ensure that the needle valve is indeed working. What I would do is to take the flotbowl top off, wash it in water, and then blow ever so slightly through the brass inlet port. Then lightly move the arm (that the float presses on) up a...

Re: Spark plug caps originality

Todd, Thank you for the reply. I looked a volume 43 issue 1 page 30 and it is the Barrington Manual. I am not sure you meant to reference that. I went back to the Barrington manual that is sitting next to me and Re-read the sections on the HT leads as well as the back reference section and found not...

Spark plug caps originality

All, Restoring an early 1953 R68 and I am wondering what the original spark plug caps would be. The choices are the silver metal 1k ohm caps and the brown 0 ohm caps with the bmw logo on top. There is also the black Norris one but I don’t think that was ever used on the R68. Guidance is appreciated.

Re: Chasing down rough running on R69S

Kurt, Maybe I missed it, but the pinging sounds like a lean condition when the motorcycle is hot. I would look at the carbs and sonic clean them. Pay attention to the jets and spray through them with carb cleaner. If you have done that, and I missed it, try the higher octane gas. I have run a mix of...

Re: R51/3-carbs leakage and tuning issues

I always hold my floats under water to see if they float. If they do not they are cracked.

R51/3 - R68 cable guides

Does anyone here know of the proper use of the two cable guides that bolt under the handlebar. I looked at my one plunger and it is hard to see how each cable would route through each one. I initially thought that the two throttle cables would go through the right guide and the clutch through he lef...
