Re: Rebuilding an F750

Here is a pic with original tank which I modified so we could keep starter motor. Note top of engine not cut off and we bought one of those 1 piece covers. Not sure how I feel about the cover...gives it a sort of vintage vacuum cleaner look. Seat needs some cleanup. [attachment=0]tank_seat.jpg[/atta...

Re: Rebuilding an F750

We've made good progress in the last few weeks. I brought the vapor blasted cases up to my dad's so we could build up the engine and get it into the frame along with the transmission. We temporarily put the carbs and tank on for fit checks, all looks good. We have a set of 38mm stainless headers tha...

Re: Vintage BMW 2021 Rally is on!!!

I know the rally organizers had no way of knowing, but Dorna just scheduled COTA motoGP the same weekend. I was hoping to come for first time to the BMW event, but going to MotoGP is a tradition with my friends. :o

Re: Rebuilding an F750

Latest progress. Note the crankcase is a spare R90s. The engine we will use is still with me in Texas ready for rebuild when I get up to dads next month.

I ordered tires this week so soon it will be easier to roll around.

Re: Rebuilding an F750

We had a slight change in plans over the past few weeks. I initially we were going to use a set of magnesium Brembo calipers from the mid 80s, but we have been unable to source new seals. Unfortunately we discovered this after all the mounting hardware was made. I located a new set of Brembo caliper...

Re: Rebuilding an F750

Making progress. Dad finished front brakes, just waiting for me to get master cylinder. I finished sealing and polishing tank, just waiting for new decals to be delivered.

Re: Restoring #163

None of the bikes had changes to the clutch cable set up. The stock set up works ok, except it's sort of a long pull. There is a guy who now makes a 2 to 1 set up using a tiny chain. We have on of those on our R90s that I like. I can't really see much in that pic, I can only assume that if its diffe...

Re: Restoring #163

I actually took a pic of this, but only on the top side. The underside has recesses for o-rings as well as on the case side which it looks like you have done. This was actually a leak point on the rebuild, the machined surface on the case was just not flat enough. We found this out when we put the e...

Re: Restoring #163

Well I didn't want to leave you hanging too long.... A few months had gone by along with, I assume, many phone calls and emails between BMW and the then owner of #163. The end result was that by the fall of 2016 the bike was purchased by (I think) BMW. My dad was also contracted to do the restoratio...

Restoring #163

I decided to start another thread and share my part in the restoration of the 1976 AMA Superbike championship bike #163. The story of the restoration of the #83 bike is well documented with many photos available on the internet. Last I knew, it resides in the BMW factory in Germany for all to see. W...
