Re: Restoring #163

BMW brought the bike out to Barber this weekend for their 100 year celebration. We had a great time at the event, the best part being that I got to ride the bike during the parade laps on Saturday and Sunday. I will try to get some videos posted soon.

Re: Rebuilding an F750

The stacks were from a shop called Speed Moto. They have them in different sizes plus the mesh filters. Link below.

Re: Rebuilding an F750

A minor update to the bike since I've last posted... Turns out the Mikuni TM38 carbs were just too big and there was no way I was going to get them dialed in. The issue is the valves in the R65LS heads are too small resulting in too little airflow to get things moving. Even though the bike is an 860...

Re: Rebuilding an F750

Here are a few pics from the Revival Cycles Handbuilt Show in Austin Texas. There are a lot of BMWs entered. Its interesting to see how many people use these bikes for custom builds.

Re: Restoring #163

I'm at dad's house preping the F750 for transport to Austin for bike show. I showed him the heads and he confirmed these were not heads he ever worked on or used. None of the bikes he built use 14mm plugs on bottom. They all had 12mm. He noted immediately these were R90s heads. When I questioned the...

Re: Restoring #163

Thought i replied yesterday but i guess i never hit submit. The ports were defined over the years from track experience and testing on a flow bench. Dad has a rubber casting some place of the final port configuration someplace in the parts bin. A marine type epoxy was used on one side of the port to...

Re: Restoring #163

Regarding the heads in the second pic of this thread.... The head on left is essentially stock with a single plug. The head on the right has dual plugs and a modified intake port. The other main difference that is notable are the push rod tubes are larger diameter. The reason for this is because the...

Re: Restoring #163

I guess technically Butler and Smith would be the builder with Udo, my dad, being the person running the effort. Are there any race parts in the collection you are clearing out? I have one of the two C&J frames that were used the year after the factory motorrad frames but before the Rob North on...

Re: Rebuilding an F750

I'm pleased to announce the bike will debut at the Revival Handbuilt Motorcycle Show in Austin, TX on April 14th-16th. The show coincides with the MotoGP at Circuit of the Americas.

F750 #406

Here is another F750 that appears to be based on an original Motorrad frame. I am aware there were 4 frames originally delivered to Butler and Smith in early 70s. Two were built into race bikes, one currently at Barber Museum and the other held in a private collection (currently being refreshed). As...
