I have this same question. Before I attempt this on my own. Can anyone offer a trick or procedure to put the kick start return spring in place? Maybe its already on a different thread that hasn't come up in my search?

James,
You say you always use Cleco-type fasteners. I'm very familiar with pop rivets but don't understand how Cleco fasteners temporary hold and release. Would this kit be suitable?

The beautiful crank I purchased from Meyer (Germany) after loosing my original crank in the mail, didn't have a transition or edge that held the nose bearing off the timing gear. The other concern I had was I wanted the bearing to be fully seated into the front cover with just a little play for expa...

I agree the washer/shim would be easier to implement than the sleeve. I've been looking through my collection of misc nuts bolts and washers to find a washer with a 20mm ID. Thanks everyone for taking the time and sharing their thoughts!

Mal,
I like what you did. Slightly different approach based on what I found easily available: This bearing has the same OD as the timing gear and ID of the bearing. I might try both.
