Re: R27 GENERATOR HELP PLEASE

Growlers show up on Ebay fairly frequently. Some old time auto shops should still have one kicking around they may lend you.

Re: Fuse question - R51/3

If a fuse is only in circuit to protect the wiring...the voltage doesn’t matter. Amps are amps regardless of voltage. If the fuse is there to protect the device in the circuit, then the voltage may matter.

Re: Fuse question - R51/3

Fuses protect the smallest wiring in the circuit from over heating due to over load. (At least in general). A fuse a couple amps bigger than spec is probably not going to cause a big issues as the ampacity of the wire is pretty liberal. That said, old wire, with deteriorated insulation and bit over ...

Re: Uli's Motorrad New Production Cylinder Head Review

Did you pre oil the rockers, and run the engine for a bit with the valve covers off for a few to make sure the oil was flowing. A trick that was taught to me a while ago. A bit massy, but it is reassuring to see the oil right out of the gate. Also not a bad idea to spin the engine over a bunch sans ...

Re: Adding oversized slides to the bing carbs?

With enough time and effort and solvent and a bit of fine abrasive in the hole, one ought to be able to make the bodies serviceable again. The needles are stainless iirc so they should clean up pretty easily. Polishing the bore with some #000 per #0000 steel wool, and then possibly using a small hon...

Re: Klaxon horn will ping, won't toot

Polarity doesn’t matter on the bench, but it does on the bike, since the button grounds the circuit. Wiring it backwards on the bike will make it go all the time iirc. Icarus

Re: Klaxon horn will ping, won't toot

Carefully take the horn apart. Inside you will find (if it is like mine) two sets of “breaker” points. Clean the contacts on those points, then use the screw on the body of the horn to adjust the amount the diagram moves as the points make and break. Too much and the horn won’t sound, not enough and...

Re: R50/2 First start in a number of years.

You are welcome.. Not that you asked, but since this has been sitting for so many years, consider, at the very least changing all the fluids, especially the engine oil. Also consider doing slinger service if you don’t have a history on the engine. I know it it a big job, but if crap from the slinger...

Re: R50/2 First start in a number of years.

/2 did not have a front brake switch. Mine is a late production ‘68 and doesn’t have one.

If I recall properly, the neutral switch is on the back end of the tranny.

Hope this helps

Re: Long Engine Warm Up ‘55-‘69

Consider this...you have a pretty massive (thermally) engine system in toto: case/crank cams/jugs/oil etc all of which start at ambient. Gasoline vaporize better as it gets warmer (until such time as it boils!). In order for that gasoline to vaporize the entire thermal mass must get warm enough to a...
