Re: /2c ~ Ergonomics / Braking & Shifting.

I used a long (left side) footpeg on the right side of my conversion and on my solo bikes. To make it work I cut the pivot off the short footpeg (later model twin w/footpeg mounted shifter) and welded it onto the longer footpeg. Add a longer rod to the shifter mechanism to finish it off. Or, make a ...

Re: Well… that stupid side stand got me yesterday

If you look at the extended stand, it gets shorter as the bike rolls forward. And it just keeps rolling. The bolt makes the stand get longer as the bike tries to go forward. That makes the bike roll back. Even a rock will roll downhill, not uphill.

Re: Importing a bike to California

I believe the DMV restriction quoted refers to new vehicles. I have a '78 RS that was brought from Germany and registered in CA without issues.

Lots of people move to CA and register their out of state cars. I do recall visiting the CHP office to get the VIN verified.

Stock sidestand problem

As many of us know the stock sidestand will allow your bike to roll forward and fall on it's side. There is a very simple and cheap fix for this. The stock sidestand foot has 2 holes. Why they are there is a mystery, but they can be used to fix the problem. Stick a 5/16" X 1/2" bolt throug...

Re: Got my battery covers painted…

When you mount them see if you can get a small bungee cord to supplement the O-ring. O-rings fail and you lose one cover. The bungees seem to last forever; never had one break.

Re: Well… that stupid side stand got me yesterday

To stop the bike from rolling off the sidestand all you need to do is install a 5/16" bolt in one of the holes in the sidestand foot. I used a 1/2" long bolt. You could use an 8mm X 10-15mm bolt but I never found one that short. When the bolt is in place the bike has to roll forward more t...

Re: 77 R100RS Spoke Wheel Finish

Could they have painted the wheels with the same matte clear they used on the bike parts? That would be my guess.

Re: 1978 R80–7 cruising speed

My German friend Gert uses redline as cruising speed. One caveat, before he added an oil cooler he did experience main bearing failures. I will admit that you don't notice much scenery when zipping down the length of Italy at over 100mph and less than 20mpg.

Re: New Member, new 1977 R100/7 questions

It is a fairly rare fairing. Whether you like it or not is up to you. I've ridden trips of 5000 or more miles 25+ times. Some with a R90S Bikini fairing, some with an R100RS fairing and most with no fairing and low bars. I liked them all. With no fairing the wind takes some weight off your arms and ...

Re: Correct foot peg for center stand R69S?

I've had several R69S and /2 bikes. Never seen a round foot peg on the center stand.
