Re: 1984 r80 g/s gearbox query

Pictured on the right is the drive out of my 84RS. On the left is the drive that came out of my 93 RT. An ear broke off the drive gear on my RS causing it ride over the ramp if I was in a gear higher than third. The drive out of the 84 is not marked with an X, the 93 is. You can see the new part is ...

Lens replacement for clock & volt meter

The lens on my clock and volt meter were in tough shape. I could not find replacement lens, so I set out to try to make my own. I used acrylic that was 1/8” thick for the lens. A 2” schedule 40 PVC works perfect for a holding jig. I used the lathe to hold everything tight while rolling the old bezel...

Re: Carburetor cleaning

I tried my soda blast method on my carbs off a 93 RT and it did not work. Had to resort to acid and a brush. I was surprised that the soda worked so well on one set of carbs, but not the other. Just when you think you have everything figured out….

Re: Stripped Drain Plug Woes - Update

I never had any problems with the fit after installing a helicoil. I just checked for fit and there is a little more play at the start. After the drain plug screws in a turn things tighten up as normal. I like using them because it does not interfere with the sealing surface for the crush washer. Th...

Re: Carburetor cleaning

I used soda blasting (baking soda) and it made my carbs look like new. If you have a blast cabinet and use abrasive media, make sure it’s ALL vacuumed out. Wash with soap and water and dry immediately.

Re: R60/5 timing

So I did a little more digging and this is what I found. I have a dyna III ignition system and made a new mounting bracket for the control module. Upon reassembly, I hooked up the power wire to the ignition system on the wrong side of the coil. It now is not lazy on take off. Valves are are parallel...

Re: R60/5 timing

Pistons are all the way out at OT mark. Move the crank a few degrees either way and piston moves in. I just wanted to confirm that the cam is timed correctly to the crank. I had the front cover off a while back but never thought to check the timing. Bike runs good, no knock, but a little lazy coming...
