Re: R80 G/S fork rebuild issue

Issue Resolved. I removed the right side lower (Again) and removed the circlip and lower disc assembly. Both were relatively coated in oil and the internal surface showed evidence of a bonding agent that had clearly failed. I cleaned all surfaces with a solvent and reassembled with a light coating o...

Re: New shirt designs?

I'd like that design better if the logo was smaller and centered on a chest pocket. Everyone loves a pocket... right?

Re: R80 G/S fork rebuild issue

Thanks Jim. I've tried preloading the spring by compressing the front end with no improvement. Next I'll remove the large circlip at the bottom and try cleaning the components with a solvent and seeing if that works. I suppose they're soaked in fork oil and aren't generating much friction. Another v...

Re: R60/6 value for insurance

I've always insured through Hagerty and they have never objected to any value I've placed on a motorcycle. I usually place an over-value on my bikes to cover the potential inconvenience of finding a suitable replacement, having it shipped, going to pick it up, wasting time etc etc. They are more con...

Re: Burning Oil R60/2 /Math Question

While that may very well be what the owner's manual states, that has not been my experience with any of my 60's era BMW's unless I'm running them wide open on the highway averaging north of 70MPH which I have only ever done a handful of times. My bike didn't seem to mind at all but I did note an inc...

R80 G/S fork rebuild issue

Part of the resurrection of my R80G/S included the rebuild of the front end. For the most part this was a relatively straight forward procedure. Tear down, clean, replace all seals, inspect etc and reassemble. I encountered one issue though that I'm having some trouble addressing. The large allen bo...

Re: Replacing final drive 1959 R60

How fussy are you about the condition? I’ve got an empty case you could use. It’s from an R50S so probably about 1960..

Re: About to buy my first Airhead...advice?

P.S. Those Krauser panniers and rack on the R90/6 are worth at minimum $500 but could easily fetch $75-$1000 alone. They are very handy and functional as well. You’ll be glad to have them.
