Re: Swingarm gear oil - does some "hide"?

Thanks for that input as well Kurt. I will drain and refill more conservatively. Only having 120 miles on the original fill wouldn't normally prompt me to change the swingarm oil, but I realized the gear oil I originally used was in fact GL-5. There is some popular advice out there to avoid GL-5 in ...

Re: Swingarm gear oil - does some "hide"?

Thanks, I'll try turning the rear wheel and massaging the rubber boot with the drain plug out. In the mean time, I did manage to refill it with 150ml, without a mess, but my assumption is the swingarm would hold much more than that before topping out at the fill hole. If I did lose 80ml and now adde...

Swingarm gear oil - does some "hide"?

Hi there, I am looking for a sanity check: I set out to replace the fluids in my 1965 R50 /2 today given the riding season is starting to run out in Minnesota, and noticed only 70ml came out of the swingarm. I have exactly 120 miles on this machine since finishing restoration, and my notes say I ori...

Good input - thanks!

Excellent. Sounds like I have a bit more work to do on my horn. I too, took the horn apart (not everything, but cleaned inside without taking all the bits out of the cavity and repainted it - though it was four years ago almost so memory is probably 50/50). I'll look at the horn button to see if it ...

Thank you both. The horn

Thank you both. The horn functions fine using the same bike battery when directly connected to the battery, but there must be some loss in the circuit when connected through the bike’s wiring. I’ll keep an eye on it, and charge the battery anyway. The key question is really after wanting to understa...

R50 /2 basic functions questions

Hi all, I recently completed restoration / reassembly of my 1965 R50 /2 which I purchased in boxes. I am very happy with it, and it rides wonderfully based on the one time I’ve ever ridden it. Since I’ve had limited experience with these bikes, I wonder if folks can help confirm normal operation of ...

Thanks! /2 red green pod lights

I know this is a ten+ year old discussion, but simply want to say thanks for this thread. I picked up a new red / green lens during restoration of my R50 /2, and have been wondering what the popular means for installing it is as the new one doesn't fit securely on its own.

This helps.

Yes, I do like it when the solutions are easy; sometimes I should just slow down and remove my dunce cap. Hopefully I'll have pictures of the completed project to share on here before end of the year.

Thanks again for the input.

Thanks for pointing that out

Thanks for pointing that out Dave. Man-eyes obviously missed the slotted switch holes in all the surrounding "blackness".

I still wouldn't call it good alignment, but it is better and with the right length contact bolt I think it will work as intended.
