Congrats on the sale, especially the R27! Can't explain the recent surge in R27 prices, but glad you took advantage!

Re: 1959 BMW R50 Top Speed

You are only talking the difference between 3.12 and 3.18. You'll never notice the difference if you've ridden an R50 with the common 25/8 final drive.

Re: R26 Won't Start after Carb Rebuild

You have an adjuster right on top of the carb too, I think - not sure about the singles though. Guess I assumed you already did that. Yes, get all the slack you can get and see if the slide bottoms, then adjust free-play to suit.

Re: R26 Won't Start after Carb Rebuild

Did you change the relationship of the meshed gears in the throttle housing? That may be holding the slide open. In any case, a slide being held open is a big problem when cold starting. So glad you are getting there!

Re: 2 bikes for sale - ‘65 R50 and ‘65 R27

Unfortunately, there is no way to know for sure how many other-than-black bikes BMW made. Perhaps the archives could run a sort of colors through their records and get some idea. Archives has my R27 as originally Dover White.

Re: 2 bikes for sale - ‘65 R50 and ‘65 R27

I just bought an original Dover White R27, serial number 383731, eight ahead of yours! Mine was built on Sept 1, 1964 and is titled as a '64. Perhaps BMW ran a batch of Dover bikes with consecutive serial numbers. Good luck!

Re: 1965 R60/2 Overhaul

.002 is on the tight side. I'm surprised, especially since it's the stock bore. Don't spare the heat when warming the block!

Re: Idling and vibration R69 1956

You don't have to guess whether you have too much differential timing. Use an Ohm meter to determine exactly when the points open each time relative to the S mark on the flywheel. More than a couple of mm difference between each cylinder is too much and can be corrected as described previously. Dave

Re: Sound File - what is making this sound?

But as Vech said, does the sound disappear when you lift the dipstick?

Re: Sound File - what is making this sound?

Vech sold a type of rear main seal that eliminated this chirping sound. I'm sure it available somewhere currently. But that won't help you much without removing the trans again. That may very well be your noise.
