I recently purchased my first BMW. a 1968 r60us. when i try to start it i put it in nutral and the bike will roll freely as it should. but when i push on the kick start the bike wants to move forward as if it is in gear. any thoughts on a solution or what the problem could be? is it possible its NOT in nutral as i think it to be. or an i going to end up tearing into a tranny rebuild?

I can't be certain but I'm

I can't be certain but I'm wondering if there's a problem with the starter gear moving around on its shaft which is partically engaging improperly inside the transmission. Be sure you're in neutral...sometimes you can be in a false neutral. But if you're really in neutral and using the kick lever moves the bike, I'd say someone needs to go inside the transmission. Could be there are other problems and this is the time to make it right.

False neutral? Good

False neutral? Good question...I think it's more of a feel thing. If you feel you've shifted positively and hear the snick of the gear selector, your probably in a specific gear or in neutral.

Ok thank you. I have heard

Ok thank you. I have heard with these BMW transmission s that to find neutral at times can be difficult while the bike isn't rolling. I'll look into it an when I know I'll tell you what I find.
