You didn't mention IBMWR...there's two for sale there now:

"New" bike

I had fantastic luck with a "wanted to buy" ad in the IBMWR marketplace, figure out what you want and place an ad for it, they are out there!

I wonder why it was totally

I wonder why it was totally rebuilt if it was never outside, used as a prop. Unless the previous owner had it outside, etc. Not many miles on it, unless the odometer has been reset. I would want to know the background of the rebuild...who, why, what...

Nice bike otherwise...

All good questions...

I assume he means that he bought a restored bike to use as a prop and is now selling it. But why not just borrow or rent one? Due diligence definitely called for.

It's a small world

James,
I used to work in Maurice and I spent a lot of time in Laffayette, the office has moved to New Iberia (but I don't go there much anymore) I work (almost exclusively) in the Haynesville Shale (Many, Mansfield, Coushatta, etc.).
You do know that you are kinda close to the "center of the old-BMW universe" right?, Bench Mark Works is outside of Starkville, MS and Vech is an amazing resource!

I fully understand the attraction to Dover White!
Have you decided on a model(s) yet?

vince, oh yeah, I called

vince,

oh yeah, I called those guys in Mississippi first, and they have no leads now,,,,,,

as to the dover white one on Ebay, I contacted that guy and asked some questions which I was told to to learn more
and he really could not answer them, I am watching it,

I found several, but they all buy and sell, and they really can not give me a good history, I know about the cost of slinger cleaning and so I am prepare for that, I keeping hoping to find one someone has own for some time.

I keep telling myself to wait and someone will call me and say, I found "the" one

thanks and keep your eyes open for me

James

I found "the one" (old-bikes

I found "the one" (old-bikes are a passion-thing and you HAVE to find what you want) in northern Missouri, it was a heck-of-a-drive from Galveston, Texas but it was obviously "the one" for me.

I decided what I wanted, placed a "wanted" ad in the IBMWR marketplace and got so many responses that I had to pull the ad as my phone was getting hot!

I have a good lead on an R12 for sale in CA and several /5's in OK.

Make up a "short-list" of what you want,
Put an ad in at IBMWR, just make sure your phone is charged-up first!

Matt at Boxerworks (in GA) is a good resource (and a real good-guy).

James - Whoo Hoo! Nice

James -

Whoo Hoo! Nice one...pictures are next, right??

As for insurance, try a search by typing insurance in the box in the upper left of the forum. There's been some past discussion on this. Depending on your needs, you can find a company that will provide good coverage for your stated value (not Blue Book or Kelly) and may or may not have mileage restrictions. Hagerty and JC Taylor are a few names that come to mind...there are more as well. Some people use Geico. Some companies may require that you have more than one bike...it's more attractive to them that way. Send some quote requests off to one or more and see what works for you.

Nice bike......you scored!

Nice bike......you scored! Looks great, however I noticed all this plastic "tupperware" in the background(?)...........J/K!
Congrats man,now you have to master the elusive art of the downshift/upshift WITHOUT making expensive noises.
A simple way to start is on the upshift lightly pre-load the lever and count to "2" and then upshift. The downshift is a whole other ballgame.Good luck and have fun!

James, - I'm green with

James, - I'm green with envy!!

When I bought my first vintage BMW, I promised myself that I would not sell it no matter what. This is the kind of stuff that should be past down generations. Newer bikes are different. If you want people to stare, or at least look twice, you got the right one. Enjoy.
