Hello BMW gruppe

A while ago I was at the Westerwald Museum, this museum is packed with tons of BMW goodies, it is so full of stuff it is even hard to take decent pictures. Everywhere you look you see cool things.
If you are in the area it is definitely worth a visit.

Attached photo is the entrance, I have some from the inside but it seems I have already added to many pics to my account,
Is there an area where I can put these ?

see http://www.westerwaldmuseum.de/museum/museum.html

Get a bigger account Wink ? Please?

I would love to see pix from Westerwald. I have been to many of the German museums, but not this one. The proprietor of Westerwald, Gerhardt Weller, attends Veterama ever year and is one of the "go to guys" when looking for obscure prewar parts.

From your trail of pictures, it sounds like you had a great trip!.

Bigger account, where ?, costs ?, Europe's Museums / Shows

Hi Bruce

I can't find info to get a bigger account, can you help me with this ?

If there are more members interested in European museum's and stuff than I am more than happy to upload more photo's and show the "European perspective" on BMW's motorcycles

I wasn't sure if there's a limit to the number of pictures you can directly upload to the posts...I see that you've been attaching images directly to your posts. But you can always get one of the free picture hosting sites like Flickr, smugmug, or snapfish and put your pictures there. Then you can either hot-link them into your posts or just provide the links to their location within your account.

Ed -

I checked into the museum and found out where it is located. Interesting, that it is not far from Montabaur. This town is where my R25/2 spent a good share of its life as part of the police force there in the small town. I've had my picture and story run in the local paper about how the bike ended up with me. Plus, I've seen pictures taken in the '60s when the bike was in service there.

I hope to make it over there some time. I'd like to talk to people in the police department and track down more records of the bike. Possibly meet people whose relatives may have been in contact with the bike.

Montabaur is the sister city of Fredericksburg, Texas, which is not very far from me. They helped me get in contact with people in Germany.

Difficult to track down

Kurt,

So many beemers are ex police ,my R27 came from the Police force in Duisdorf, not far from where your bike came, I contacted the police overthere and some retired cop said he would try to find info , after a year of silence I stopped hoping. BUT i do have a photo from the BMW archive taken at the factory grounds, a row of 250 R27 are waiting to be delivered to the german police , mine is one of them.
My R51/3 was delivered to some French police organisation (??) in Germany but I still have to look into that.
Kurt is your R25/2 still green ?, My R27 still wear it's original uniform, as a matter of fact my R27 serial number ends 627, in the Westerwald museum there is an exact same bike also in original green, which serial number ends 626, amazing huh.

regards
Ed

Ed -

Yes, my bike is still green. The tank, fenders, and headlight shell were repainted before I got it...bummer. But it was painted with the correct color as mixed by one of the premier painters here in the US at Holt BMW in Georgia...make that Ohio...I always get Athens, Georgia, and Athens, Ohio, confused. The frame is still the original color, though.

Do you have any suggestions as to who I can contact within the police department in Montabaur? I'd like to continue my search for info on the bike. For example, the odometer showed about 14K kilometers when I got it. I'm sure it's been around at least once, although the papers I have indicate that that was about the number of km on it when it was retired from service in 1970. I'd sure like to know more about the miles at service intervals during service so I can get a feeling for what the true mileage is. I doubt I'll ever find out about the owners between 1970 and when it showed up in the US a couple of years ago.

I really find this interesting, searching into the provenance of the bikes.

Kurt

Westerwald pics now uploaded

you can find my Westerwald pictures here

http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=westerwald&w=56631555%40N02

Kurt you might wanna write a message here
http://www.polizei.rlp.de/internet/nav/82d/82d609c6-071a-9001-be59-2680a...
and just ask.
your 14.000 km's is about the same as my R27, which drove 14800 when I got it, I refurbished the engine block and electrics and found out everything was still untouched and in good condition, so the 14800 must be about right. Just like you I would love to see the history of my bike, and one would think at the police they must have stuff from the past ?
show us a picture of your r25 someday, crious also what you think about Westerwald

Ed -

I have one picture of the R25/2 in my gallery on the website. I haven't gotten around to taking more just yet, but will at some point.

I will look to write a note as you suggest...I'll have to do some translation! At least to introduce myself.

Thanks...Kurt
