I received the following email, which may be of interest to one of our members:

| Dear Sir.
|
| I write to you as I cannot find a 'Contact Us' on the VBMWMO web site. This
| is not a contribution to the News page, just a request to ask if any of your
| members own a BMW R5, UK Reg, HMK 477; Engine No; 501143.
|
| This machine was sold to someone in the USA, by the owner in Ireland, some
| time around 2001 ish.
|
| I owned the bike from 1966 to 1985, when it was sold at auction, (to the
| guy in Ireland ) to help purchase our new house.
|
| In 2007 I wrote an article for the Classic & Vintage Section of the BMW
| Owners Club, G.B. This traced back the history on the R5, + one my Father
| had owned in 1938-40, and may well be of interest to the present owner. When
| I bought it, the machine was a 'basket case', but all there, I have it's
| history from the mid '50's
|
| A member of the BMW Club, GB, for many years my other bikes are an R50S
| bought new in 1963, ( the last of 12 imported into the UK), and an R25
| (1951). Just bought it back this year, it went the same time as the R5.
|
| Please contact me if this information is any use.

R5 history for serial 501143

I know the bike, it's history and who currently owns it. I almost purchased it from the Irish owner before it came to the USA. It is a small world.

I will contact Mr. Freeman directly.

Bruce

R5

Small world indeed... I almost bought this bike many years ago. I still have a bunch of pics on file.

Cheers,
James
