what bikes used the 180 k speedo?

I looked at the repop dials available and didn't see any but also think I might know some Asian gals that could more faithfully replicate those simple dials.

Veigel Speedo goes 180

I'm a little hazy here, but I believe that Veigel was only used by BMW from about 1935 to 1955. Maybe an R17 or an R66 had a 180kmh speedo, but the R12 had a 120. Postwar, the R51 and R67 models had 160 kmh speedos, so maybe an R68 had 180.

Thank you, my guess is the R66 had a 160 and you are right about the R68.

I went to take pix but the batteries were dead. They'll be up soon.

Here's a pic of my R51/3's Veigel speedo. The R68 would have one with a similar appearance.

It's a 1953 R51/3. It has been a great deal of fun...

Unfortunately, I was in an accident on it in 2005. I am only just now finishing up the restoration.

my circa 1932 r16 original speedometer goes to 160kph and is made by Veigel. It is white faced and needs a rebuild!

If you are in Europe, you might try Tacho Service.

They repaired the Walzentacho (scroll speedometer) from my 1935 R12 quickly and economically.

I'm having trouble with the Swiss tacho service website contact page. Does anyone have a direct email address for this company? Thanks, Barry Brown

Thanks guys, much appreciated. For some reason my computer would not allow me to scroll down the whole screen at that website. Cheers, Barry

SPEEDOMETER GURU FOUND

Just wanted to let you know this man , Christoph Ris in Switzerland runs a first rate operation. He repaired my seemingly hopeless speedometer and carefully left the original face as requested. It was all done at a reasonable price within a few weeks! What a joy in this day and age to see that integrity survives. Thanks for giving me the contact info. Happy New Year to all classic BMW owners. Barry Brown Big Grin

I had Tim Stafford in San

I had Tim Stafford in San Diego deal with my Veigel for my R51/3. When it came back it cost me $150 -- compare that to Palo Alto! I checked it with my GPS to see how accurate it is now. When it reads 100 kph on the speedo, the GPS read 99 kph. Pretty darn good IMHO.
