Good day,
I am searching an R68 hand shift lever.
It is about 140 mm (5" 1/2) long measured from the center of the shaft to the center of the "ball".
It means about 35 mm (1" 1/3) shorter than the one for the R51/3 and the R67s ...
Regards from Milan, Italy

Many years ago, I bought a used one from Ulis Motorradladen. Their website suggests they have one available.

Thanks Kurt and Brian, @Kurt:

Thanks Kurt and Brian,

@Kurt: unfortunately Ulis' levers are not the right ones ... The longer is for 51/3-67s, the shorter is simply "too short", and it was never seen on a /3;
@Brian: despite the description it's 51/3-67s only, not 68 that is shorter as per my above post ...

I can't recall precisely but

I can't recall precisely but I don't think mine was on their website. I contacted them and asked. They found one and offered it to me.

Funny, I've had that hand shift lever installed since the beginning...never used it once. Just wanted it to slip over the exposed shaft on the side of the transmissions...just trying to make it look right.

Hand shifter

I just measured mine, it's about 165mm center hole to center ball and has an S bend in it, probably to help clear the right leg. When I ride I feel it tapping my calf once in while. As with Kurt, I never use it but it's supposed to be there, so...

Tip to tip is probably 200mm

Tip to tip is probably 200mm which seems to be the standard length and available from Huggett and Ulis'. Raffaelle, are you sure the 140mm lever was dedicated for R68, or maybe just an optional length? I looked in both my R51/3-R67/2 and R68 parts manuals and the part number is the same, 250 1 40 061 03 Handschalthebel

More than likely the part was supplied to BMW by contract manufacturers which made a variety of lengths and it was random which one was installed or, the short ones were an aftermarket piece.

Thank you all! I asked to a

Thank you all!

I asked to a couple of local R68 owners about the lenght of their levers ... They both told me 140 mm ...
So ... 165 or 140?
Maybe the shorter one was created only to allow an easiser installation of the 2-in-1 "Six Days" exaust system (the raised one)?
Could that perhaps explain the presence on some actual R68 of the 140 mm lever?

May I kindly ask to the owners of R68 reading this forum to report the lenght of your levers (please from the center of the shaft to the center of the ball)?

Thank you very much!
Raffaele
