Dear all, it is now the turn of the front wheel section to be treated: Among the pictures I enclosed here, there is also one from Mark Huggett's site, a technical "exploded view" drawing. I have drum nr. 6, the duplex type.
What I did not understand is what are the marked grooves for (red arrow) ?
Is there may be a missing part in the brake shoes picture, that should engage with it?
Needles to say that I rode the machine this way for many years; Note the aluminium bonded pieces added by previous owner...
Thanks for any input.

Plunger hub

Micha, Front and rear wheels are interchangeable . The splines are for the the rear drive. Nothing missing. They would commonly use the same wheel for a sidecar and carry a spare wheel which could be used front, back or sidecar.

There is an only type wheel

There is an only type wheel hub in this bikes. There is not any missing parts at yours. the mcsherry1328 is right. If the rear wheel hub's spline has any gap, you can change the whole wheel hub with the front one. Bmw's gift for us. Laughing
