I rebooted my pc this morning and unable to add a pic
Only 1 pic out of 4 tries yesterday

It seems like it takes 4 times longer than before and wont attach
I am using Windows Vista 7 and never before had a problem

I will again try to attach a pic
Still says No file selected at the end of attachments load

I now will try a pic I was able you attach yesterday from a different directory

Just added 3 pics ok but 4th pic says No file selected

Not sure what to say...I didn't see any differences in the pictures I uploaded. I didn't try four, though. I'll try it here. Seemed to go OK for me.

can't upload pics

Just tried this. Tried a few times with different pics. Can't get any to upload. They are all jpegs and way under 20MB. I tried previewing before saving and got a "Capcha attack detected" Tried it on this post, too. looks like it is uploading then just ends up with "no file chosen" I'll try restarting my PC.

Yeah, "get out of the car and get back in". I just uploaded a picture on the wiring harness thread.

Can't get it to work

Re-started - logged out and back in - tried several different pics. Never had a problem before

Not sure what to try next. I'll try my laptop at work

When I try to preview I keep getting a "Captcha re-use attack detected" with or without trying to attach a pic

Test with Internet Explorer instead of Chrome

Cleared cookies and browsing history, cache, etc.

Changed password - Logged out - logged back in
Still no upload.

I am pretty much out of tricks here. Everything else works so its not the end of the world but would like to post pics on occasion

Any Ideas

I have some understanding of PCs and networking. Have been in the business for most of my career, but I am honestly stumped here.

I have tried two different Laptops - both Windows 10. I tried using both Chrome and Internet explorer on both laptops. Both machines are current with updates. I "cleaned" them both up by deleting cache, cookies, temp browser files in both browsers. I went through my profile here to see if anything looked amiss. I tried many different images- both JPEG and JPG files from many different sources. I also tried it from a different location (work) just to eliminate firewall and other network issues. Both laptops have been re-booted and I have logged out and back into the forum many times. Every time I attempt to upload an image file it seems to attempt the transfer for a few seconds then just stops and goes back to where I started with "no file chosen". If I use IE it has a "browse" button instead of a "choose file" button. I have not made any changes to either of the laptops recently. There is no error posted. This is a recent development as I have posted pictures in the past without any difficulty.

I would appreciate any suggestions to help me figure this out.

My good friend Jim cabinet blasted the frame. (Text belongs to him). Just a few spots remain. A little more cabinet time will finish the cleaning process. Epoxy prime next!

This tab holds the side left side of rear fender. More cabinet time needed on this spot. Can you see the small crack in the deep pocket of the previous repair?

The welder missed. See weld bead laid down nicely on tube. But, tube and foot peg mount casting not firmly joined to tube by weld along backside.

This view better shows the area to be reinforced.

More cleaning reveals more cracks. Jim will help me weld them all.
(Actually, we both admire the way Zanieda has been saved again and again.)

Jon has a good point in this

Jon has a good point in this post:

http://vintagebmw.org/v7/node/14885?page=page=3#comment-48345

There's two aspects to this. 1) picture link...you provide a link to a picture that is already on the web. If it's some webhosting site like smugmug or something, I think there are features that allow the image to be displayed as opposed to just the link to the image. And 2), picture upload...as in upload a picture from your computer to the forum's server.

I'd sure like to hear from those having issues if by using the Attachment feature at the bottom as Jon says clears things up. That might be the ticket!

You can't upload zip files.

You can't upload zip files. The valid file formats are listed as "jpg jpeg gif png txt doc docx xls xlsx pdf tif tiff eps bmp ppt pps odt ods odp csv".

The messaging system and/or email has had problems for some time now. One or the other works...I just forget which.

Frankly, I don't think the operating system has much to do with it. Mostly likely it is the older browser that came with Win7...Internet Explorer v 8/9?? If you have software that is that old, it will work on some sites not others. It's all about how much effort the website designer wants to go through to translate content for all those older software packages. Nobody is writing web content for Win95 or Win2000...just too old...again, it has to do with the browsers that were in existence with those older operating systems.

I do know that a new upgraded server can't be in sync with all older sotfware and hardware
It is time to update my pc

This is a good thing for me as my daughter looks at my laptotp and just says Dad
DSL is my only internet option here about as fast as dialup

I belive my browser is updated but I don't like this laptop anymore
My R27 is faster

So cheap really today to upgrade a pc and in 2 years I will be out of date as the hardware and software will require new hardware to keep up with the new software and higher internet speeds

I did try to update os to ver 10 a year ago and was unable
received message saying my display was not compatible with new version update

I also did find that it now has problems attach some pics to my email
I thought that was only on this site

I now know one reason why I love these old bmw so much
No software updates

Tommy posted the following in

Tommy posted the following in another thread:

Quote:

Yea I still cant upload any pics after new server was updated
I only have DSL as my super high speed internet and now think it is to slow for the new server and software

I really don't see why your method of attachment to the Internet makes a difference...unless you were using a connection at 2400 baud...for anyone who remembers. If you're connection was so slow, it would be timing out all over the internet...I doubt that is happening. I really can't see why some can upload and some can't.

Tommy, you said you can't upload. Does it have anything to do with picture size? Can you take a picture that fails to upload and reduce its size or resolution? Hopefully you're familiar with various software packages that can do this...might even be included with your operating system. If the original picture is huge, say 3000x3000 pixels, try reducing the picture to something like 800x800 and upload that. That shouldn't take much time which would disprove the DSL possibility.

The only way for this to be figured out is for someone else to try your equipment. That's possible these days by using computer-to-computer connections such as TeamViewer. I use it all the time with my family when they have computer problems and need me to check it out.

Another possibility...take the picture that won't upload and find another computer somewhere (a friend, coworker, the library) and login from there and try it again. Be sure and fully logout once your done.

I'm having a tough time understanding why some have problems...just doesn't make sense.

So Tommy, you say you still

So Tommy, you say you still can't upload pictures in the 1954 R51/3 thread. But you uploaded a picture in post #7 above less than a month ago. I'm having a hard time grasping the issue that you're having. If you have a picture that you've tried to upload but it fails, then send me that exact picture. Either message me with contact info or find my contact info and email me the picture.

Thanks...

Pic upload

Hi Kurt
Thanks for looking into this

Just tried to upload 2 pic I already uploaded before the server update
It takes a long time and then get no file selected error

I also am having problems attach pics in my aol/verizon email but seems no problem with my gmail account

I bypassed my wireless rotor and used a cat5 cable also with no results

It appears to be a timing problem

I need to take my laptop to another location and try to eliminate the internet
and also possible problem with my laptop by using another pc to see if I can upload same pic

If that doesnt work I will email you some pics via my google email

should be able to do verify this week and update you

Thanks
Tommy

Files must be smaller than 20 MB

1st pic size is 1.77 MB and uploaded ok
2nd pic is 72 KB and upload ok
3rd pic 2.18 MB and error no file selected

Most of my pics are 2 2.5 MB

Site stated no larger than 20MB
Is it really only 2MB

Tips to resize my pics to less than 2 MB

It's a good idea to resize

It's a good idea to resize pictures before uploading. While not too much of an issue today with the cheaper costs of storage space, it just adds to the overall problem of bloated storage for no real reason. Plus, having an image uploaded with lots and lots of resolution is defeated by the fact that our computer screens are going to be the weak link in viewing the images...they only have so much in the way of pixels and resolution. So taking the time to upload a big resolution image just wastes everyone's time.

I've been using a free program called Irfanview for quite some time to resize (or better yet resample) images. The object is to shoot for an image that contains say 1024 x 768 pixels. This program can also control the quality of the saved JPG image. Both of these cuts down on the size. It's important to save the changed image by some other name so you don't overwrite your original image. I usually put the letters LR on the new file name to indicate it has lower resolution.

My Win10 operating system has already installed the Paint program. It will do more or less the same thing. I'm sure Macs have something similar.

There are quite a few other free programs out there. I ran across this program - http://www.picresize.com/ - which does it all through the web...no programs installed on your machine. I guess the only thing I don't like about these types of things is that possibly...I don't really know...the site might save/keep a copy of your image somewhere. I personally would rather do all that work on my own machine.

I also have a version of Photoshop which I use when I'm dealing with scanned images my slides or prints for archiving.

Nice! Each picture has to be

Nice! Each picture has to be resized...just the way it is. So what's your program of choice to do the resizing?

Could be there's some kind of limit on the new server. The comment about file size limits is likely left over from the previous configuration.

Yeah, it's kind of a hassle to resize, but it's not like you have to do that for every photo you've ever taken. Plus it can be helpful to do when sending pictures via email. Smartphones are "smart"...typically when you attach a picture to a text, the phone's software automatically resizes the picture so it doesn't take forever and overwhelm the recipient.

Irfanview has some other interesting features, too.

Pic Uplaod

Yeah
Guess Im from old school
My camera is only 10 years old
Never thought I would have to resize my pics
Today I quess most people use their smartphones for their pic's and have no problem
I have a cheap Wallmart phone just for gps and when I am traveling
I would get a better phone but I have no service here
Works ok for my needs on the road but I hate the camera

PS
Thanks to Luca from Romania for best advise to resize pic's

Happy now
To understand why I cant post pic as in the past with my camera on the forum with out resizing them
Thanks

Tommy
