I am in need of a 1953 R51/3 lower fork yoke/lower triple tree. I believe the part # is 3142-2000440. I could probably have the pressed in stem replaced/rebuilt but would be more comfortable with the original part. My beautiful machine is obviously garage art without a tight lower triple tree stem. I would appreciate any help on where this part may be located. Have several feelers out but no luck so far. Thank you in advance.

Kurt, he's using a new part#.

Kurt, he's using a new part#. Original # is 251 4 62 460 0, which is version 2, without the three casting holes and 35mm thick, used after June 9, 1952 on metal shrouded forks. The rubber shrouded forks, #529381 and up, would need part# 251 4 62 460 1 which is 33mm thick. See pages 81-82 of the Barrington plunger book.

OK. I just plug the number

OK. I just plug the number into RealOEM and it said it couldn't find that. But your new number - 251 4 62 460 - doesn't look right either. I thought BMW numbers were typically xx-xx-x-xxxxxx...a total of 11 digits.

At any rate, I certainly don't have a line on this particular part.

yeah, now I'm lost. My parts

yeah, now I'm lost. My parts manual has it listed as 251 2 62 544 09 or 251 2 62 545 09. I don't know what the difference is.

Anyhoo, good luck tracking one down!

Lower triple tree

Was able to contact Mark Huggett and he had a used one on the shelf. This will be easier than trying to repair the one I have. Thanks everyone for your help.

I frequently see them on

I frequently see them on eBay, however the upper seems far more popular. No lowers listed right now, but there are 5 or so uppers... I wonder why.
