The final drive on my 64 R60/2 is not vented. When were vented final drives introduced? I suspect it is from an earlier model, but I want to confirm.

Duane says venting was added

Duane says venting was added in 1963...near the bottom:

There's a service bulletin dated May 1963 that mentions that beginning with R69S #657099 the vent was added with a new housing. Doesn't give any specifics for the other series, just that it would be started with the next series bikes.

Would Have Thought

I would have thought that your '64 would have the vented final drive for sure, but who really knows? BMW was great for using what was still on the shelf.

Dave and Kurt, thank you for

Dave and Kurt, thank you for the information. I agree with Dave, the bike probably came with a vented final drive. I am not surprised it was missing, given the other non-original parts on the bike.
