Hello all,

I just wanted to see if anyone on the forum has tried mounting a plunger-framed BMW to a Steib sidecar without changing to the stiffer fork and plunger springs, or without going with the sidecar-geared transmission or final drive?

I'll be restoring an old S500 soon, and want to mount it to my recently restored R67/2 (which has the standard geared transmission and final drive). I'm not a heavy guy, and I don't plan on carrying anyone/anything all that heavy in the sidecar either (my wife long ago gave up riding in my old sidecar rig, or two-up on my bike), and I'm not in the hilliest of areas in northern VA by any means.

Just asking because the sidecar geared transmissions and final drives don't seem to come available all that often. The fork springs are no problem for me, but I don't relish the idea of getting back into the plunger springs.

Anyway, thanks in advance for your thoughts,

- Doug

Plunger Frame with S500 Steib

I have an R67 with Steib S500 sidecar. I feel the standard gearbox is fine but I would definitely get sidecar gearing for the rear drive.
I would also get sidecar springs for the forks. Mine has these options and the rig works great. Michael

I have a set of sidecar

I have a set of sidecar springs I will sell for a fair price. I also have a set of sidecar gears, ring and pinion for R51/3,it is a little lower than R67/2 but will work. I will sell those cheap if you are interested.

Hi Thomas, By "sidecar

Hi Thomas,

By "sidecar springs" do you mean just the fork springs, or the full set? As for the final drive gearing, that sounds good if you feel good about the condition of the gears. If you send me a direct message, or email me at dougbrashear@yahoo.com we can work out the details.

Thanks!
- Doug
