Hello all,

I was mounting my R27 motor in the frame tonight and I realized that the engine mounts I have might not be the right length. They came NOS individually bagged (new 25 years ago) with the motorcycle when I bought it. The new ones measure 40mm long and it looks like the originals measure 42.5mm. But I cannot be sure of any of that because I did not remove the motor from the frame, nor did I purchase the new ones.

Can anyone help me with the correct length? Like go out and measure theirs in their garage if its not -45 degrees where you live? It would be greatly appreciated!

Also, since the engine was out of the motorcycle when I got it I found tonight that I do not have the correct engine mount bolts, they never made it in the pile of parts I guess. I would like to know if anyone has original engine mount bolts that you would be willing to part with so I can have them re-cad plated. I have ALL the original nuts and bolts so far and have had them cad plated and I would hate to have stainless ones for these only.

The project is coming down to the last parts and I will send pictures when I am done!!

Thanks!!!

James

Rubber mounts?

I assume you're referring to the rubber motor mounts? I replaced those a few years back while refreshing my '66 R27. I still have the original mounts which were in various states of decay. If memory serves, the 4 lowers are all the same while the top mount is shaped a bit like a topless pyramid. Seems I ordered the new set from Vech who suggested I make a special wrench to install them which consisted of a 22mm opened ended wrench grinded down thin enough to fit between the frame and the motor mounts so that while tightening the mounts to the motor, one does not inadvertently impart a twist to the rubber dampener thereby causing premature failure.

But, I haven't gotten around to answering your question. Give me a few minutes to bundle up and head out to my shed, it's only negative 4┬░ F.

Hmm

Well as it's somewhat tricky to accurately measure the installed mounts, here's what I got. The new ones in the bike measure approximately 40mm. The old one sitting on my kitchen table is a hair over at 41mm. It seems they compress a bit once installed. If yours measure 40mm, I can't foresee any issues with fitment.

Let us know.

Thanks!!!

Hello all,

Sorry for not getting back sooner, I did get several answers (including another forum) and they all came back with 40mm for future reference.

I got a total of 8 engine mounts with the R27, 4 old ones and 4 new ones. The new ones look EXACTLY like the Max picture and are square and measure 40.25mm. The old ones I have are more barrel shaped and the rubber feels more soft. Those measure 42.5mm. So, I can only assume that the older ones start at 42.5 and crush to around the size of the newer ones since they are much more stiff. AND, Slash2 getting a measurement off the bike under "load" verifies that idea. BIG THANKS SLASH2!!

I know the alignment of the driveshaft in VERY important which is why I was concerned about the length.

Thank you for everyones help!!!

Stay warm!!

James
