I recently replaced my high handle bars for lower ones. The exchange went without too many tears. However when removing the bar end signals, I damaged both of them. So I need to buy replacements. The left one broke as I was removing it from the bars...one of the expanding tabs snapped when I pulled it out. The right one's spring loaded plastic tab ( with the electrical connection) came undone. I went through the tedious process of taking it apart and reattaching the tiny wire to the tiny bronze connector with set screw...only to have the plastic plunger stick inside the hole...which prevents tension to the bulb. Does this make sense? I ordered another Chinese set from E bay only to have the same thing happen...To both of them!! I was bench testing the bulbs and the same thing happened, when I put the bulb in and tightened the bulbs in, they stuck...again.

I'm considering now investing in the Hella units. $$$$. The installation seems much more involved considering they don't seem to come pre-wired. The Chinese ones came pre-wired.

Any thoughts or advise?
Thanks in advance,

Hella bar end signals

Brian, For me this is a non issue. I would never use Chinese repo parts. If money is an issue, and it often is, I would wait until I had enough to buy original parts. Wiring these is really quite easy.
If you end up getting the original Hella signals, there’s any number of experts in this group that would be happy to assist with questions in wiring or installation. Michael

Dont think there is anything

Dont think there is anything plastic on my Hella bar end lights. I took them off to rechrome my bars. Put them back on/ put the wires on bassacwords took them loose again without any trouble. So I would say......

Twocams, No plastic?, Is

Twocams,
No plastic?, Is there a little cylinder that makes connection at the end of the wire behind the spring? If so, what is it made of. I assumed the knock-offs just copied the Hellas. Sounds like the German ones have a much more effective design. That settles it. I'm calling Vech tomorrow. Early Christmas present.
Thanks,

I'm not familiar with the guts of the Hellas...could you use some of the items being sold in ebay? Salvage something from them to bring yours up to speed?

The pre wire is not a big

The pre wire is not a big deal. Just take your wire and twist the ends, a little dab of solder on the ends. If your wires are to short I would get some heat shrink, and solder a piece to your existing wire. Then tin (solder) the ends. This makes a good end to thread the brass fitting and tighten the screw down.

Hellas

The Hella signals are quite robust and you'll not have those problems with them. Highly recommend them. When you are talking to Vech, get the little wiring harness they make up for the Hellas too. Makes installation simple for maybe $20.

I just purchased a set of Hella's from Blue Moon to save a couple bucks. They don't charge for the end screws- Vech does. I don't see a lot of endorsement for Blue Moon on this site. Is there a reason why? I also see a guy on E bay is selling a set as well and he's including illustrated instructions printed by Hella. Does anyone have these instructions they could share? I am an artist an respond well to pictures.

Hella

I highly recommend the original Hella bar end signals. Quality vs crap. I just installed a set myself. Here is the link I used to learn about and install the signals. I used my own wires to set it up. I found some long spools of shrink wrap tubing to cover the wires from the switch and handlebars into the headlight bucket. It worked very well. I used a Napa 535 6v flasher relay to make the system work.
