Finished with front calipers and master cylinder rebuild and now need to reassemble. Two questions:

1. ) what is proper routing of the brake cable? Mine was installed as shown in photo #1. (new cable showing). I think it would better to route it as shown in photo #2 through the small area just above the top tube. Other option is photo #3 below and along side the top tube but still not outside the frame like in photo #1.

2.) I failed to mark somewhere on the frame or create a reference point when I removed the master cylinder. (I am a rebuild newbie). Where should it sit exactly? How far back from the tank support piece?

routing

you have the right idea. I believe it routes alongside the voltage regulator close to the frame tube. The idea is to get a straight as possible shot to the M/C for the easiest, (non-binding) action.

Master cylinder position?

Is it a trial and error thing? Can someone pull their tank and give me a measurement from the head tube to the front of the master cylinder?

Your tank has an indention to

Your tank has an indention to allow for the extra room needed for the master cylinder. Measure the distance back from the nose of the tank to the center of the indention. Place the master cylinder in the same location per the measurements. It's not a critical location for the master cylinder...just needs to be within the allowed space under the tank.

This MOA post shows a picture

This MOA post shows a picture of a master cylinder on an R100RS...should be pretty much the same as your bike.

Thanks

That makes sense. I'll play with it and find the right spot. I now have everything I need to put the brakes back together along with the new carbs and cables. May even get it started this weekend. Thanks.
