Hi,

1966 BMW R60/2.

Think there's a bad seal that keeps the shaft drive fluid from flowing into the final drive.

Looking to replace the seal. To get to the seal, need a tool to lock the final drive pinion gear in place.

Anyone have one for sale, rent, borrow, charitable donation?

Thank you,

Maurice

The shaft drive fluid and the

The shaft drive fluid and the final drive fluid are 2 different chambers. The seal in the final drive is SUPPOSED to be separated. If you have a bad pinion seal, the fluid will migrate from the swingarm into the final drive making the driveshaft oil low and the final drive too full. There are different procedures to fill the swingarm and the final drive.

Update - pinion gear lock now off

Hi,

Tom is correct.

What happened to my motorcycle is when I check the final drive fluid level, oil gushed out of the filler hole. Also, there was little/no oil in the shaft drive housing.

Found a smarter-than-me person who figured out a way to get the pinion gear nut off.

Seal now replaced - will be testing out the repair this week.

Thank you
