The speedometer on my 92 R100RT started acting up. Showing 85 MPH at 4000 RPM when its usually 70 MPH at that RPM.
Today I took the 69 R69 out for a ride this morning. And it started flopping around and showing 120 MPH when Im doing 45-50.
I took the speedo out of the 69. Took all of 10 min. Called Palo Alto Speedo. Could be 3-4 months to repair this time of year cost around $300.
So I thought Ill call....North Hollywood Speedo. Takes 1-2 weeks depending. OK that's better and cost around $150. So we will see.

Took my speedo to one of those box-it-up & drop off places. Asked if they could bubble wrap it and put into a box. Sure.... can I also insure for $500. " Do you have a bill of sale for this Item" sir. No, its a speedometer from a motorcycle. You cant insure it for that without a Bill of Sale. Fed X will insure automatically for $100. And I said " only in America". Be there Monday.

Let us know how it works with

Let us know how it works with N. Hollywood. I have the same problem with my '68 and for the time being I have replaced it with a $65 EBay special repro speedo, that is, shall we say, not very accurate. (I use an old garmin hand held GPS when ever I go on a ride faster than ~40 just to use it as a speedo, lashed to the steering damper nut under the handle bar.)

North Hollywood?

I read here some time back that North Hollywood no longer repairs/restores motorcycle speedometers. It would be welcome news if they have reversed that decision.

Yes, But

Yes, you read that here, but you might also have read that it is not true and N. Hollywood still does /2 speedometers. I and several others have had speedos done this year there.

Danedg, Do you think that can

Danedg,

Do you think that can be the problem or helping to cause the problem?

Both, and it will continue to

Both, and it will continue to cause problems.
I bought a new speedo from Vech to correct the ratio discrepancy and was told to replace the cable or it would destroy the new speedo....
The needle wagging around is the clue.

Overseas Speedometer

http://www.speedometer.com

I sent my MB speedo and odometer to Overseas and did a great job. They will work on the R100RT, but I don´t think they service R69.

I got my speedometer back,

I got my speedometer back, only 14 days. They called to tell me it would be $185 for repairs. Plus $45 if I wanted the glass removed and cleaned. And paint the little bit of rust under the glass. I said no at first to the painting, but called them back later and said go ahead. Told them to leave the mileage alone. With shipping it was $244. Im pleased with the results.
