Took my R69S out for a ride yesterday, just up the road and back to see how far it was. Thought I heard some pinging from the right cylinder. But who knows, I was going up hill at a very high rate of speed. When I got back to my shop I noticed the right head was making a lot more noise than the left side. Pulled the valve cover to check the valve adjustment, right on the $$. But did notice the intake rocker arm blocks was letting the rocker arm move up and down more than the exhaust. Which could account for the excessive noise. IT still had the same amount of noise.
I went to the advance/retard rotor next. I dont see the weights moving out. or the timing changing. So ill take it apart and clean it up. Springs and everything their. Then I hear this clang noise from maybe within the right cylinder. Pulled the right head off looking for anything unusual.
No, still cross hash marks in the cylinder. So drained the oil and pulled the pan. Nothing there either. So the only thing I got out of this little exercise is knowing everything looks OK and I can sleep tonight. Maybe it was just my 30% hearing lose I have.
Im still cleaning the retard rotor and wait on a new head gasket.
The End

well at least it'll be easy

well at least it'll be easy to set your rocker arm clearances since you got the whole damn thing torn down. If I were you though, might as well keep going and have a look at your slingers while you're in the mood. Then you can sleep easy. Wink

Cheers!

OK slash, dont give me any

OK slash, dont give me any Ideas.
Actually I just rebuilt the engine myself about 3000 miles ago (new slingers). But when I hear things, then I wonder did I torqued that bolt or did I get that jobby right. My main concern is what I thought was pinging from the right cylinder. Now I need to put all back together so I can trouble shoot that some more. Never heard it before.

Figure out the ping?

Hi Twocams,

Did you figure out the right-side only ping on your R69S yet? Pls do LMK as i'm experiencing same (timing is also spot-on and the slingers were done recently). I've run a couple tankfuls of Techron to attempt to burn off excessive carbon, but it's still an issue.

Thanks!
roger
