Hello everyone!

First time poster and newly minted BMW R51/3 owner here.

Been following the forums for a few weeks prior to purchasing my 1953 and have found the depth of knowlege, experience and willingness to share encouraging as I considered stepping into vintage motorcycle ownership.

So, I'm hoping that you folks can help me identify the aluminium tank (photos attached) that came fitted on my bike. The seller, a vintage dealership in London, didn't specify whether it is a period/original item or not. I didn't ask as the tank looks great, the pristine 'original' tank was supplied with the bike and I felt that if i had pressed him, he may have been flexible with the truth Smile

Whether or not it is 'original' it is beautifully made and fits perfectly. It has two petcocks, as shown.

Does anyone recognise this design and know possibly if they were accessories back in the day when the bikes were being sold new?

Any input or opinions would be greatly appreciated

John

Looks pretty much like the Hoske at the bottom of the first page.

There's a link on one of the subsequent pages to a Hoske catalog.

This is a Stefano tank, made in recent years in Rottenburg, an aluminum replica of a racing tank in light gauge steel originally from Lugauer in the pre war or early post war era, with capacity for a sidecar racer, and maybe also copied by Hoske in heavy gauge steel in the post war times...cute tank/pretty motorcycle: enjoy!

That's a really pretty tank.

That's a really pretty tank.
There's a company in Canada that does similar for HD Sportsters, and also sidecar rigs.
