Looking for a small "stock" top trunk for my 92 R100RT. I see them on lots of R100RT but cant find one for sale. Not sure if my rear rack is made for the top case either. Anyone know? Or do I need another rack.
Thanks

I don't know what fits what,

I don't know what fits what, but the line Givi comes to mind. The issue I have with top trunks is that they can act like a sail given the broadside they offer to winds, even those coming off the fairing. Plus they allow weight to go up high and after of the rear axle...a destabilizing effect.

I've seen an OE trunk that fits the standard rack. It is low profile and has a plate which attaches to the standard luggage rails. The plate has a receiver for a Dzus type fastener that extends through the bottom of the trunk. It was probably a Hepco & Becker product. The overall design was very much in keeping with the side cases of the era. I've only seen a few.

These are real small trunks

These are real small trunks that won't even hold a half helmet. But I know what you mean. I have a 85 Honda Wing Aspencade with top trunk that will hold 2 full face helmets. And it's not on the bike, but in the house where it's been for the past 2 yrs. I have laid it on the Wing for pictures only.

There's a smaller OEM top

There's a 22 liter OEM top case that I think came standard on the '95 monolever RTs, and was available before that. I think there may be some additional widgetry added to the standard rear rack, like yours, to mount it. The MaxBMW site seems to show that the rack bits and the case are both still available, but they're not inexpensive.

I've had a Givi 460 top case (and its adaptor/mounting plate) mounted on my '84 RT's Reynolds folding rack for years without any noticeable impact on handling in windy conditions, or at speed. My bike doesn't see the high side of 80mph very often, so take my comments with that in mind. The Givi 460 is pretty big---it'll easily accommodate a full-size helmet---but I don't load it with heavy stuff. The mounting plate and bag sit nice and level on the Reynolds rack (which may not be true on your monoshock's rear cowling rack unless you do some fabricating). It's able to stash my Aerostich jacket and pants when I'm off the bike, and it comes off of the rack/mounting plate with the push of a single button, so it's as handy for hotel loading/unloading as the BMW "touring" side cases that it harmonizes with stylistically.

The OE "luggage carrier"

The OE "luggage carrier" won't do it; I think you need this, which is on the MAXBMW site/fiche: 08 46 54 2 303 478 SET: RETROFIT KIT, TOP CASE BRACKET

$350---ouch. You might try one of the salvage guys (Repsycle, Beemer Boneyard, etc.) before taking a dive on a new topcase retrofit kit.

Top case bracket

I have a 92 RT with the bracket you are looking for! Came with the bike, so not sure were to find one except the places listed above or by going on other forms in the classifieds and ask for one. Hope this helps. Don’t know why the photos are sideways?
