I am trying to find the Vin on a 88 R100Gs.
There is a sticker on the frame below the right cylinder which has the beginning of the Vin WB1 but the rest looks to be pealed off.
Is there any other locations that it might be? Or even a serial number that reflects the Vin.
Thanks Bruce

Earlier in the models, there

Earlier in the models, there was a 7-digit number next to the oil fill hole, but that was discontinued. The tag you mention is supposed to be the 17-digit VIN starting WB1. It's also not a requirement to have the engine/frame match after a period of time, so there's no real number on the engine you could use. About the only other place to look is on the right side of the steering stem tube. The 7-digit VIN used to be stamped into the frame there...not sure if it's still done in 1988.

88 R100GS VIN location

Kurt,

From pictures I see of this sticker the VIN was printed on just like the manufacture date above it. On this bike it looks like the remaining 14 digits were removed/cut off. The rest of the sticker is intact. I looked for a stamping on the steering stem did not find it. I did see MADE IN GERMANY stamped on a steering head support bracket.

Bottom line it looks like there is no way to prove that the title is for this bike.

Thanks, Bruce

I don't think this will help

I don't think this will help any but some places like to see an engine number. There should be one stamped on the lower left side of the case. Read what Snowbum says about interpreting that on this page:

Thanks for the input. I will

Thanks for the input.
I will see what I can find.

In checking with the Florida DMV as long as it is titled in Florida, were I live, then there is no issue transferring the title.
If it was an out of state title then it would be an issue.
