I'm working on a 1938 R51 rebuild. I bought an after market front fender from Oldtimer Garage. Pretty happy with the quality. I was planning to use the front fender stand from a R51/3 (you know, the stand that is supposed to hold up the front end up during a wheel removal, but bolts to the rear bottom of the fender otherwise). The R51/3 front stand is too short. Not sure if that is because the prewar bikes used a longer stand or if it is due to the aftermarket fender.

I see a mix of items on ebays. Some advertise the stand as only R51, R66, R71,... Others adverstise as prewar and postwar.

Anyone know what the deal is here?

Thanks
Matteo

Mark Huggett told me a couple of months ago that he has just had a batch of pre-war front stands made. You can buy direct through his website.

I've got two pre-war R51's.

I've got two pre-war R51's. The front stand on one of them is about 3 cms shorter than the other. I believe that the shorter version is the correct one but I don't know this for certain

Front Fender Stand

Yes Matteo the stand for the front wheel there are similar but not the same from pre and post war plunger frame model.
If you have buy new front fender You must still adapt the bracket.
If you want I can measure the two bracket.

Thanks all. I just got a

Thanks all. I just got a front fender stand off of eBay. Works perfectly. Looks like the difference is mainly in the tab that holds the stand up by a bolt at the rear of the fender. That tab is shorter on the prewar than the postwar.
