Turn signals work great but on the cluster, it will only flash once and then it disappears. Is this an issue with the turn signal relay unit?
Is there something to check it. In short, does the indator stay lit or does it flash?

It should flash...the fact

It should flash...the fact that it doesn't indicates the circuit is not right. According to the diagrams, the front turn signals should ground at the signal, possibly through the body of the mount. I suspect you don't have the signals properly grounded.

turn-signal indicator not flashing

Excellent! I am awaiting the VDO gauges I ordered for my fairing so I will check all the wiring for the turn signals when I wire in those items.
I will reconnect the turn signals for now and test. Thanks for the feedback.

Signal relay

On my R90/6 the turn signal indicator flashing only once is a feature of the signal relay and means a bulb is burned out. I’ve never seen this mentioned in any manual, but I know it to be true.

This might help in your trouble shooting.

Turn signal bulbs okay

I have all signals working properly. Should I just replace the signal relay to be sure as it's the only thing left in the circuit.?

Not sure I

Not sure I understand...everything is working OK and you want to change the relay? Seems like the problem was solved already. If you feel that the relay is trouble down the line, you could replace it while you're here. IIRC, these relays aren't cheap. The signals on my /7 weren't really blinking...bulbs are fine, but I think it's the original relay. So I bought a new one...something like $80 as I recall.

issue with instrumentation indicator light/ relay mod

The turn signals are fine but the indicator on the gauge only blinks once. I can live with it but often forget to turn off my turn signal. If this warning on the gauge would only flash like the signals, it would remind me to turn it off Smile
The Hella TBB26 is in my bike. I will put a meter on KBL, or C on relay, and see if I get a consistent flash from relay.
Not after the original flash unit so will find an alternate cheaper one. There must be newer ones out there they use on other bikes.
I was also recommended to run a seperate ground for each turn but it made no difference.
Some relay tweaking was found on website and might be of use for those having a similar issue.

For cheaper substitutes for

For cheaper substitutes for BMW OEM flasher relays, see section 23 on the following, from Snowbum's super useful website:

http://bmwmotorcycletech.info/electricalhints.htm

and also this:

http://forum.boxerworks.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2888

and, essentially the same, this:

http://forums.bmwmoa.org/showthread.php?56950-Turn-Signal-Relay

Something else you might try is to uncase the flasher relay. When I mistakenly shorted out the wires to one of my signal indicators, which meant the relay stopped functioning altogether, I figured I had nothing to lose by looking inside. I did this by prying the plastic case open, carefully, and looking at the works inside. I checked the contacts in the relay, made sure they weren't stuck, and then put the thing back together and, much to my surprise, it worked!

all best, Lincoln

Relay repair

Great links to great articles for the relay. Cleaning it is a definite pm item among other parts on the bike, things wear out simple as that. Will take it apart tomorrow and clean the indicator-section and test. Don't buy if you can fix it is always my first choice Smile

NAPA flasher

These flashers don't go for $5.00 anymore but more like $10-$12 now. I purchased the HD-13 relay and wired it as per the article and used 3 blade connectors, leaving the original connector intact. This is a round unit and with a fastener ring attached to bracket inside headlight wall. Works like a charm and my gauge indicator works great!!
