I am sure this has been done a million times but here is a little tip I used when replacing my points. when you remove the advance plate with the allen bolt look at the lobe that is mated to the back. There will be a little notch where the lobe mates to the advance plate. this is the high mark on the lobe, take a sharpie and draw a line from the notch to the end of the lobe marking the highest part of the lobe. When you replace the advance unit you will now have a visible reference to line up with the rub pad on your points. this will be the most "open" point of the points and where you will set the points gap to .016 I did this and the ignition was spot on I didn't have to make any adjustments however this is meant to get you close and you may want to make final adjustments after the everything Is put back together.
