It's been a while since I've

It's been a while since I've had mine apart, if I recall correctly the shaft comes out the front of the case. The center of the shaft was threaded,so I found a bolt that would screw in. I made an adapter to fit the bolt to a slide hammer, heated the case and out it came. I don't remember if the shaft was locked in the case in some manner or just held by interference fit. You may want to check the bearing holders for fit while you have it apart. Mine were loose on the outer race fit. I had them copper plated to tighten things up. It's best to take inside/outside micrometers, the bearing and be there when they do the plating so you can carefully check the build up and not get to much. If the holder fits the case snugly, tape off that area so it wont plate
Now is a good time to replace any bearings you can with sealed ones or machine the bearing holders to accept modern seals. I seriously considered leaving the inside bearing seals in place since a sliding gear transmission can create a lot of grau-du that isn't bearing friendly.
I hope I can add a little off topic suggestion here about sealed bearings. If I replace a sealed bearing in anything,I always, carefully remove the seal and check for grease. I have found bearings with NO grease inside. One guess where they were made. Good luck

gear removal

You or your welder are probably ahead of me on this ,but you may want to soak the case in acetone for a few days to get the oil out of the crack. Warm up the case and if you see oil bleeding out, soak it a few more days.
