How would one go about researching the history of a bike egs. where and when imported ,date of manufacture , past ownership?

The first step is to email

The first step is to email BMW and tell them your VIN and ask them to search their records. There have been many emails posted here before...this seems to be one of the later ones:


Beyond that, you have to be very lucky. If the bike came with German papers, that might tell you something. Usually, about all you can do is see what BMW says. If you know the previous owner, you could contact them...see how far that gets you back.
