The continuing success of the BMW Motorrad brand means that each year, many more new visitors arrive in the bustling town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the first weekend in July to witness around 40,000 friendly motorcyclists from every country imaginable besieging this well-to-do Alpine sports resort. Last year was the biggest and best yet, with a great mix of product highlights, tours, shows, exhibitors, fantastic food and drink, and a packed events, activities and party programme.

To the uninitiated, BMW Motorrad Days is a free festival, organised by BMW Motorrad, just as a way to say “thanks” for being part of the worldwide community that make the brand what it is.

Our advice is to start planning now, from what route you will take, to whom you will travel with, and where you will stay upon arrival. Many options are available, from organised group rides via dealers to club runs to individual tours. As for accommodation, there is a massive choice available in the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and surrounding villages – but only if you book early enough. Every year it’s the same story: all the rooms get sold out and some visitors are left with long journeys to and from the event each day. So remember, it’s first come, first served so reserve your rooms early (please send your requests to – or simply pack your camping gear and enjoy our great on-site facilities.

Every year, tens of thousands enthusiasts join the AMA and the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, and nearly 1,000 independent vendors at vintage motorcycling’s biggest bash. The event includes racing, the country's largest motorcycle swap meet, seminars, stars from the sports past and present, bike shows and more, all designed to recapture a simpler time and remind us what's fundamentally cool about riding motorcycles.

There is much, much more information available at the AMA website.

The free Swap Meet on Saturday & Sunday gets bigger and better every year. Clean out your spares, find what you need to fix your bike or buy another one!

Sunday is the official Antique Bikes on Main event, when main street literally fills with vintage bikes of all makes and models. Not everyone rides a Harley. Come look for the Norton 750 Commando, Honda 400 Four, Ducati 250 Mach 1, Benelli Riverside, Hodaka Combat Wombat or whatever YOU used to ride. Maybe you still have that old Panhead or 750-4 Chopper. Bring it out. It doesn't matter if it is a perfect restoration or a flogged, worn out "great old bike" that needs everything. Gasoline Alley hosts all varieties of race bikes on Sunday, with legendary tuners and racers mixing in the crowd at past years. Any race bike is welcome- dusty, dirty, running or not, from a dirt bike to a two stroke drag bike to an AHRMA or AMA roadracing bike. Somebody will love to see it and share stories that usually start with, "I remember the time when I...."

As always, it's all free for attendees and participants- NO admission, registration or fees to participate with your bike or bikes. Just bring it out, park it and have a great time.

It's motorcycle parking only on Main Street, especially on Sunday with designated areas welcoming motorcycles of specific vintages. If you come on four wheels, with or without a trailer, there's plenty of parking on the side streets around back.
